Suspect Arrested After Woman and Toddler Fatally Shot in Las Vegas Carjacking Attempt
LAS VEGAS, NV — A tragic double homicide in the southwest Las Vegas Valley has claimed the lives of a young woman and a toddler. The suspect, who allegedly fled through Arizona, was apprehended Tuesday night in Utah following a multi-state manhunt.
The incident began around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers were conducting a routine traffic stop near Starr Avenue and Dean Martin Drive when they heard the sound of multiple gunshots nearby.
The Scene on Victoria Medici Street Officers followed the gunfire to the 1100 block of Victoria Medici Street, where they discovered a parked vehicle riddled with bullet holes. Inside, they found two victims:
The Victims: Danaijha Robinson, in her early 20s, and a young toddler. Robinson was reportedly babysitting the child for a friend at the time of the attack.
The Outcome: Officers rendered immediate medical aid, but both Robinson and the child were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at University Medical Center.
The Investigation: A Failed Carjacking Homicide detectives believe the shooting occurred while the victims were sitting inside the parked vehicle. Investigative sources told 8 News Now that the suspect allegedly attempted to steal the car before opening fire on the occupants.
While initial reports suggested the child was related to Robinson, LVMPD later clarified that she was not the child's mother but was providing childcare. The toddler’s identity has not been released pending official notification by the coroner’s office.
The Manhunt and Arrest Following the shooting, the suspect fled the Las Vegas area, allegedly traveling south into Arizona.
Phoenix Connection: Sources indicate the suspect allegedly stole another vehicle in Phoenix to continue their flight.
The Capture: Late Tuesday night, the Utah Highway Patrol located and arrested the suspect. While the suspect is in custody, LVMPD has not yet publicly released their name or specific charges.
Community Outpouring Family members of Danaijha Robinson have launched a fundraiser to assist with funeral costs, describing her as a kind soul whose life was taken during an "ordinary and safe" moment.
