Lackawanna County Woman Identified as Victim in Fatal Monroe County Shooting

COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP, PA — Authorities have identified the woman killed in a shooting Friday night in Monroe County. The Monroe County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 41-year-old Jennifer L. Miller, of Carbondale, Lackawanna County.

The incident occurred at a residence in the A Pocono Country Place community, a large private development in Coolbaugh Township.

Details of the Incident

The Call: Emergency responders were dispatched to a home on Venice Terrace at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, following reports of gunfire.

The Scene: Upon arrival, Pocono Mountain Regional Police discovered Miller suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.

Cause of Death: An autopsy performed Saturday morning determined the cause of death was a single gunshot wound, and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Investigation and Arrest Pocono Mountain Regional Police acted quickly following the shooting.

Suspect in Custody: Authorities have arrested 45-year-old Michael J. Rodriguez, who also resides at the Venice Terrace address.

Charges: Rodriguez has been charged with Criminal Homicide.

Motive: While police have described the incident as a domestic dispute, specific details regarding the events leading up to the shooting have not yet been released.

Legal Proceedings Rodriguez was arraigned on Saturday and is currently being held at the Monroe County Correctional Facility without bail, as is standard in Pennsylvania for homicide charges. A preliminary hearing is expected to be scheduled in the coming weeks.
