U.S. Marshals Capture Second Suspect in Brutal Utica Stabbing Investigation

UTICA, NY — A multi-agency manhunt has concluded with the arrest of two men in connection with a violent stabbing that occurred earlier this month. Utica Police confirmed that Bobby Collins, 45, and Franklin Gentry, 41, have both been charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree following a targeted attack on Genesee Street.

The investigation began in the early hours of February 15th, after a home invasion turned nearly fatal for a local resident.

The Night of the Attack At approximately 1:00 a.m. on February 15th, Utica Police and Fire crews responded to a residence at 276 Genesee Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a harrowing scene:

The Victims: A male victim was found suffering from multiple stab wounds to his face and neck. A female victim at the scene had also sustained a laceration to her hand.

The Incident: Investigators believe the suspects knocked on the door and forced their way inside the moment it was opened. The male victim was then repeatedly stabbed, while the woman was injured as she heroically attempted to intervene.

Life-Saving Care: The male victim was rushed to Wynn Hospital in critical condition. Medical staff were fortunately able to stabilize his injuries and save his life.

The Arrests The Utica Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, supported by the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center, worked to identify the suspects through forensic evidence and local intelligence.

First Capture: Bobby Collins was located and arrested in Utica on February 19th.

Fugitive Apprehension: Franklin Gentry fled the area but was tracked to Norwich, NY. On February 27th, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force successfully located and took Gentry into custody.

Legal Proceedings Both Collins and Gentry are currently being held pending arraignment on the attempted murder charges. The investigation remains active as authorities look into a potential motive for the forced entry and subsequent assault.

The Utica Police Department expressed gratitude to the U.S. Marshals for their assistance in removing a dangerous fugitive from the streets.
